How Reading Can Help Reduce Stress

We live in a stressful world and for many of us, the only way to get a break from it is to park ourselves in front of the television, have a couple of drinks, smoke, binge eat or do something else that’s not healthy. The fact is that as a society we are spending billions of dollars a year on ways to release stress, even if we do not think of it that way. Stress is a part of life but some of the happiest people are the ones who find healthy, natural ways to reduce stress.

Before you can start reducing it, you need to understand what causes your stress. For most people, it comes from waking up and being very tired, battling traffic to get to work, trying to keep their job where they do not make enough money to pay all their bills and then finally battle traffic again on the way home. When they finally arrive home they have a lot of responsibilities to take care of before they can eat an unhealthy dinner and sit in front of the television until it’s time for bed and then repeat the same routine the next day. Sound familiar?

We have to find healthy ways of reducing stress and some great ones include; gardening, exercising and especially reading. Reading is a great way to naturally reduce stress because it allows you to focus on one thing at a time and provides a way for you to escape without doing anything bad for your body. It’s also great because you can pick anything you want to read and take it with you to work so you can enjoy it during your lunch break, at home or anywhere else. If you were to wake up 30 minutes earlier to read in the morning and then focus on reading 30 minutes a night before you go to bed, you would be amazed at how much better rested you felt and how much less stressed you were throughout the day.

Reading is one of the best ways to naturally reduce stress and it can also create new ways for you to socialize with people and make new friends. If you are trying to find new and healthier habits to try out, this is a great place to start and the best part is you do not have to spend hundreds of dollars to give it a try.
